Living in Moscow, from AZERBAIJAN - PR & Marketing

Interview made by Cyril Bruyelle in July 2017

I met Aygün in a fancy stylish cafe of Moscow, where she lives. She’s a 24 year-old ambitious Russian – Azeri marketing and PR specialist, currently working for an international newspaper. She has clear dreams and only rely on herself to achieve them.

What did you want to be when you were a kid?

Frankly speaking, I don't remember anything specific of what I wanted to be. All I dreamt about had to occur in public. All I did was in public - singing, talking or dancing. It had to be something public.

With whom would you like to have a coffee?

I do not have anyone special, who I would like to drink coffee with. I go and drink coffee with people, who I want to drink coffee with, later on. I have no such icons or authorities, which I would like to do it with.

If you could choose something that could be taught in every school in the world, what would it be?

Basics of tolerance, I think. Or basics of the specifics of different cultures. What you should or should not do in an alien country or culture. We should respect other peoples' traditions and culture and not force our ideals and views on people, who are unfamiliar with them.

To you, what’s that main characteristic that all human being have in common?

I think fear unites people, as well as, invention of idols and authorities. The ones you can rely upon afterwards. It is very typical for humans to hope for a miracle and rely on someone when in a critical situation. The hope that someone will save you in the most critical moment, it is typical for all of us.

To you, who is the happiest person on earth?

I think the one, who is satisfied with everything. The one who does not strive for new goals, who has enough to get by. Who is pleased with life as it is.

If you were President of the US, what would your first reform be?

Being a Russian citizen I am not very much interested in what I would do if I were a US President. I am rather interested in the reforms I could hold if I were a Russian president. We have our own problems requiring solution, and I feel more familiar with them than with the American ones.

What do you need?

In general ? I think I need more patience. I need to learn to be patient. Eventually, patience is a baseline.

What would you do if we gave you 1 million dollars now?

It depends on how I got that million. Did I earn it or won it? I will decide what to do this this money in view of the way I got it. If someone simply gives me a million, I will not take it because the process of getting this money is important to me.

Which innovation, realistic or not, would greatly ease your day-to-day life?

I would be happy to have a machine, which could prolong my time. For instance, the deadline is in 15 minutes and I have absolutely no time to do anything, so I would like to extend the time. Or when you are attending a boring meeting and understand that it would be better to lie on the beach instead. I would like to have a button on the phone allowing me to stay at the meeting physically, while on the Caribbean islands spiritually.

What’s the news that affects you the most in your country these days?

Currently everybody discusses relations between Russia and America and how Trump and Putin welcome each other. Considering the news from G-20 I take interest in the negotiations between the presidents. Everything regarding America and Russia is very interesting to common people: the old and the young, experts and no experts have their own opinions and their points of views. This issue is on agendas everywhere.

Do you think your life is easier or more complicated than the life of your parents?

I think I live better than my parents did and they tell me so, they tell me that I do live better. Considering the fact that their green days fell on the Soviet times…Everybody knows the specifics of those times and the difference between our time and theirs. Considering their hardships and our possibilities - yes, I live better.

If you had to create a company, what would it be?

I would open a bookstore, but not just a bookstore, also will a fully functional café nearby. It is what I am thinking about at the moment.

Can you draw something beautiful?

"Beautiful" is something subjective. Something, which seems beautiful to me, may not seem beautiful to you.  I will draw something that I can. Nicos Safronov would hire me as his assistant.

What are you afraid of?

I am afraid that when I am old, I will realize that I've failed to achieve something that I wanted to achieve. That, my dreams have not come true. That I have not done enough to make my dreams come true. It is frightening. To realize that I have just dragged out my life.

What is your dream?

To have my dreams come true.

Close your eyes, you are in 2100, what do you see?

I see that people do not buy foodstuffs in stores. They eat from special boxes, where everything is already done for them. Ready-to-eat food. And 30% of population is replaced by robotic machines, at work and at home. There is no more own residential property - everything is leased out.  There is every likelihood of it.  And also flying cars.  I know that Toyota currently invests in flying cars, so they will exist I guess.

What is the most beautiful thing that you’ve seen in your life?

I think that when you understand that you see something beautiful, you do not realize it that much. I admire when I see the starry sky above the sea at night. I think it is the most beautiful thing. I admire the sunrise above the sea at daybreak and I think that it is the most beautiful thing. I think it is kindness. It is very beautiful, when you do something kind to another.

Who is God for you?

It is a very weird question. It implies that every human has his/her own god. As to me, I have no god. I do not have any idol and I do not create any artificial authorities for myself. When you create an idol, you place expectations on and shift responsibility to someone else. I don’t shift responsibility to anyone and I do not place expectations on anyone. I rely on myself only.

Which of your country's cultural specificities are you the proudest of?

Generosity, tolerance and readiness to help.

If you could do any job regardless of money, what would you do?

My vision do not allow me to work without enjoying it. I do not aim at getting more money in my job. I even deal with the projects that are not income bearing, but I enjoy them.

If you had to explain our planet to an alien, what would you say?

Me and an alien are sitting in a café and drinking something  -I don't know what aliens drink. Maybe, we are on some planet - Jupiter or Venus. We are looking at the small blue circle and I am saying: See this? It is Earth. It is inhabited by beings, who give life to each other and take it at the same time. Just because you think or look different. Do you want adrenalin? Welcome to Earth.

And you, which question would you like to ask to the world?

I would not like to ask questions to the world. Something tells me that I will dislike the answer. When you ask global questions, too positive an answer will put you on the alert, while too negative one will discourage you. I would stay a bit unaware and keep on living without asking questions.
