New Delhi, INDIA - Bag Master

Interview made by Cyril Bruyelle in September 2017

While in New Delhi, I had the chance to meet a lot of people from the textile industry. From factory owners to low-skilled workers. Most of the factories are a few kilometres away from Delhi. Due to constant heavy traffic, it can take you hours to get there. Azad works on leather bags, in charge of patterns. Despite a pretty low salary, his working conditions were good, and safe. Reading his first answer, you will see that he never had the chance to go to school. As many Indians like him, they are pushed to work very young to contribute the family’s budget.

What did you want to be when you were a kid?

I wanted to study well & do something good, but that didn't happen to me so I started working.

With whom would you like to have a coffee?

I would have it with my wife.

If you could choose something that could be taught in every school in the world, what would it be?

Our national slogan, for example our national song can be taught.

To you, who is the happiest person on earth?

In today's times no one is happy.

What do you need?

What do I need? I am earning & living, that's enough ....MONEY

What would you do if we gave you 1 million dollars now?

I will spend it all. I will go for shopping and will purchase a house.

What’s the news that affects you the most in your country these days?

I see on NDTV, all the news of violence, bloodshed.

Do you think your life is easier or more complicated than the life of your parents?

Mine isn't all alright, my parents life was better. Inflation wasn't this high back then it was easy for them to bring us up. Now things aren't like that. It's difficult

If you had to create a company, what would it be?

I would create an export house of leather goods of my own.

Can you draw something beautiful?

What are you afraid of?

I am afraid myself. I am quite an emotional & sensitive person. I am afraid of committing mistakes.

What is your dream?

My dream is to work hard & become someone good & shape my kid’s future.

Close your eyes, you are in 2100, what do you see?

World would be much more technology based. None is using their hands for any work. None is working if this happens, it would be good for educated people but the uneducated would face problems.

If you had to write a book about the current world, what would you be the title?

There is just one book, which tells about the whole world and it is our Quran. No, it does not have any name or any title, nothing. It's The Book of God- Quran pak, it tells about the whole world. There is no book greater than that.

If you could do any job regardless of money, what would you do?

It would be to serve someone, to help someone.

If you had to explain our planet to an alien, what would you say?

I would tell that my country is good. We live happily here. We are earning, living.

And you, which question would you like to ask to the world?

I would like to request the whole world to live peacefully.

Why are we fighting against each other?
