Olkhon Island (Baikal Lake), RUSSIA - Hotel Administrator

Interview made by Cyril Bruyelle in May 2017

What did you want to be when you were a kid?

I don't remember what I wanted to do. I did not think about it I guess. I did not think that I could become somebody.

With whom would you like to have a coffee?

I haven’t had time to drink coffee and talk lately. Maybe, it could be with my boyfriend.

If you could choose something that could be taught in every school in the world, what would it be?

School…I don’t know.

It would be something simple enabling people to learn how to socialize easily, because it was difficult for me to study after school, as I couldn't socialize with anyone. I don’t know why, but I couldn't find common language with people, I had a communication problem.

To you, what’s the main characteristic that all human being have in common?

I guess kindness, because every person has it.

To you, who is the happiest person on earth?

The person who knows what he/she wants and also knows what he/she does.

What do you need?

I want to sleep. I want to sleep these days. May I answer like this?

What would you do if we gave you 1 million dollars now?

I have always thought that I should know it because if this happens, I will have no idea what to do with this money. I don't know... Maybe I'd solve some of the financial problems of my parents first. Although 1 million might not be enough at all. And then I would think of global problems, because the world faces so many problems relating to environment, children and animals.  Maybe I could do something… help people.

Which innovation, realistic or not, would greatly ease your day-to-day life?

Innovation? I don't know. It is difficult…

A possibility to travel in time, because I lack it sometimes. No, not in time. A possibility to cover big distances at high speed and for an inferior amount of money.

What’s the news that affects you the most in your country these days?

I've been working a lot recently. I know that our country faces big problems as far as fires and floods are concerned. Fires are frequent even here in Baikal, it happens year after year, something has to be done. I think it is very bad.

Do you think your life is easier or more complicated than the life of your parents?

Better or worse - I don’t know. It is a disputable question, because my parents lived in a different time. And maybe they cared about certain things less… I don't know.

I think they had it easier, because they did not think much of certain things. For instance, they could just work…and whether it was better or worse…well, if we speak about money - no, I have no idea, because even money was different back in the day. They lived well in their youth. They travelled and could afford many things, which I can't afford now. But…I am pleased with my life.

If you had to create a company, what would it be?

Perhaps, it would be something here on Olkhon. Many people here think it would be a good idea to create a waste-treatment plant without causing damage to nature. I guess I'd think about that.

Can you draw something beautiful ?

What are you afraid of?

I am afraid of my thoughts sometimes. I am afraid of the dark. I am timid and often I think of different things and get scared.

What is your dream?

I dream of building a home with my boyfriend. My dream for the near future is to go on a journey, build a home and give birth to children. I am old enough and I am afraid I will not have time to give birth to many children. I just dream of my own family and I want to travel.

Close your eyes, you are in 2100, what do you see?

I will be very old by that time… It will be my grandchildren’ generation perhaps. I see a comfortable family home. And overall, there will be new technologies, everything will be different. I will probably think that everything was so different back in my day! And my family will be around me, my grandchildren.

What is the most beautiful thing that you’ve seen in your life?

I see Baikal, Olkhon. I love this place passionately. I don't live here permanently, but I always miss this place. Here, my thoughts are all right and I find some peace of mind. I feel good and it is a very beautiful. It is my home.

If you had to write a book about the current world, what would be the title?

"What will today's life lead to?"

Perhaps it will be a sort of an essay. Sometimes I think that people do not think of what will happen to our planet, if we treat it like this, and how our descendants will live.

Who is God for you?

I think about it. I turned to God very often, back in the day… It is something up in the sky…I believe in Him. My parents are Christians, so I inherited the religion. And we have Shamanism here. I am amazed because there are so many religions nowadays. I don't know who is God for me. Currently, I am bit doubtful about my first religion. But nevertheless I know I have faith. It is a part of me.

Which of your country's cultural specificities are you the proudest of?

It depends on how you understand culture. Do you mean dances? It is difficult for me to answer this question because…Well, Russians are sort of not very cultured. People of many countries say so. But I didn't compare them with other people, so… If you see culture as some dances…Or maybe songs? My mother sings well. If you see it this way…

If you could do any job regardless of money, what would you do?

I would travel. There is a TV program "Heads or Tails", I would like to work there.

If you had to explain our planet to an alien, what would you say?

I'd say that it is very good, but a bit dirty here. We don't know what to do with our garbage. But overall our planet is good. It is so beautiful. There is a great deal to see. And the inhabitants are quite nice.

And you, which question would you like to ask the world?

How do you feel? How are you doing?

This question may be answered in so many ways. All questions actually may be answered differently. Someone can answer this question very shortly or he/she could talk a lot. How are you doing?
